BEST NEW CHILDREN’S BOOKS

I am way behind with my book reviews but I can’t help writing about what is out now. Today I have decided on writing about the books we want to have and not the ones we already do. The books I think my daughter would love and why not, your little ones as well.

We are always on the lookout for new books and the library and bookstores are our favourite hangout places most of the times. Although my daughter is a bit over three, she knows already what she wants and she will choose the books that look attractive to her.

We have discovered some new titles out there and decided to share with you.

One of our favourites has to come from the dream team, Julia Donaldson and Alex Scheffler and is called THE SMEDS AND THE SMOOS – it is an alien love story that sends out a beautiful about difference and tolerance.

The Smeds (who are red) never mix with the Smoos (who are blue). So when a young Smed and Smoo fall in love, their families strongly disapprove. But peace is restored and love conquers all in this happiest of love stories. There’s even a gorgeous purple baby to celebrate!

As it looks like, The Gruffalo, Zog and Stick Man have some strong competition now.

So excited to get this book and read it to my little one.

Next title on our list is THE WAY HOME FOR WOLF by Rachel Bright, illustrated by Jim Field. If you don’t remember them, they have written and illustrated THE LION INSIDE as well. This time they came up with an incredible friendship story that takes place in sthe snowy Arctic.

Stubborn wolf cub Wilf doesn’t want help from anyone. Not from his friends or his family. Whatever it is, he can do it all by himself. But when Wilf finds himself lost and alone in the chill of the Arctic night, he discovers something important: sometimes we all need the helping hand of a friend.

This positive rhyming story is perfect for stubbornly independent little cubs everywhere!

Thank you Laura Summers for the recommendation on this one.

Another beautiful new book has to be HEY GRANDUDE by Paul McCartney

This is his first picture book and it illustrates (if you haven’t guessed yet) the bond between grandparents and the youngest generation and Waterstones describes it as the most talked about picture book of the year.

Grandude is a one-of-a-kind adventurer – a Mary Poppins for the modern day! With his magic compass he whisks his four grandkids off on whirlwind adventures, taking them all around the globe . . .

Join them as they ride flying fish, dodge stampedes in the Wild West, and escape snowy avalanches!

Brought to life in a riot of colour by talented children’s illustrator Kathryn Durst, it’s the perfect story for little explorers.

Penguin publishing company is coming with THE OWL BABIES by Martin Wadell

It is a beautiful story that reminds little ones that mummy is always coming back.

“I want my mommy!” Three baby owls awake one night to find their mother gone, and they can’t help but wonder where she is. What is she doing? When will she be back? What scary things move all around them? Stunning illustrations from striking perspectives capture the anxious little owls as they worry. Not surprisingly, joyous flapping and dancing and bouncing greet the mother’s return, lending a celebratory tone to the ending of this comforting tale. Never has the plight of young ones who miss their mother been so simply told or so beautifully rendered.

I hope these titles got your attention a bit and you will look for them. We will check our local library and book stores today.
