SATURDAY by Ian McEwan

This was our last book club pick and I have to say that it’s definitely not oe I would easily pick from the books store shelves. First part of it was a bit of a put off for me as I couldn’t get into the story quite as much as I would have wanted.

I read some reviews and everyone referred to this book as amazing and genius so it made me want to finish it and see what the magic of it was.

As Henry Perowne (the main character) gets out the house and into the world of London I find myself interested in his thoughts and what the day will bring to this 48 year old neurosurgeon. His chain of thought and the dynamic of events are getting intense and I am hooked by Ian McEwan’s elegant prose.

Our man is a troubled doctor who struggles to understand the meaning in his life despite the fact that he is one successful person with a wonderful family and a stable financial situation.

Planning a perfect day that turns into a nightmare is what the book is about and I found myself appreciating his values when it came to saving the man who turned his life upside down with only one crazy encounter.

His family dinner, the one he so intensely thought about and planned brought him a shocking news, a life threatening situation and a spiral of thoughts worthy of a proper anxiety patient.

I can only say that it is an interesting read. Not my favourite but nevertheless a goo book
