THE MOTHER FAULT by Kate Mildenhall

I was invited by Harper Collins UK to read this book before its publication date. As I am a fan of the publishing company I thought better not refuse. The description was catchy and I decided to get going and start reading it.

In suburban Australia, Mim and her two children live as quietly as they can. Around them, a near-future world is descending into chaos: government officials have taken absolute control, but not everybody wants to obey the rules.

When Mim’s husband Ben mysteriously disappears, Mim realises that she and her children are in great danger. Together, they must set off on the journey of a lifetime to find Ben. The government are trying to track them down, but Mim will do anything to keep her family safe – even if it means risking all their lives.

She grabs the children and sets off on a mission that seems impossible. In a world where everything is traceable and technology is way above our times, she fights all odds.

THE MOTHER FAULT is a mystery thriller that kept me on my seat. Often I found myself picturing a movie and I could not for a second guess what the outcome will be. I wanted her to just hide from the government and start living a quiet life with the kids somewhere secluded, find love again with her friend. In the same time, I admired her desire to fight for her husband and children, protect her family with a blind trust, not for a second doubting her other half.

Characters are masterfully created, flawed but with a strength they never knew existed. They all have their moments to shine and show what they are really made of. As for Mim, she just shows what we all knew already. You do whatever it takes to protect the ones you love.

The storyline is great and filled with twists and turns meant to keep you on edge.

It is definitely a book I highly recommend as a 2021 read

THE MOTHER FAULT IS SET TO COME OUT JULY 8TH
